Weather Related Closings – Tuesday, February 18
Following are the weather related closings that have been reported to us so far:
School Closings:
Lawrence Public Schools (USD 497) will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, February 18. All activities are canceled and district buildings and parking lots will be closed.
Perry Lecompton (USD 343) will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Feb 18-20.
Baldwin School District (USD 348) – The predicted winter weather forecast, and the potential for adverse road conditions, have forced the district to cancel classes, practices, and activities for tomorrow, Tuesday, February 18, 2025. All USD 348 facilities will be closed. The Tuesday school board meeting in Baldwin City has been postponed to Monday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 pm, in the BHS Library.
Bishop Seabury Academy will be closed Tuesday.
McLouth Schools (USD 342) will be closed Tuesday. No activities will be held.
University of Kansas – Lawrence, Edwards, and Leavenworth campuses closed Tuesday, February 18, 2025, due to winter weather.
Haskell Indian Nations University closed.
Winter weather cancellations for Lawrence Transit (from their press release):
Based on the forecast for winter weather and dangerously cold temperatures, the following plans have been made for Lawrence Transit services. The safety of our bus riders and employees is our priority.
- Monday, Feb. 17 – On Demand service stops at midnight.
- Tuesday, Feb. 18 – All service is canceled. No overnight On Demand service.
- Wednesday, Feb. 19 – All service is canceled. No overnight On Demand service.
- Thursday, Feb. 20 – Fixed route and paratransit services are canceled. On Demand begins at 8pm.
- Friday, Feb. 21 – Service planned to resume as usual. On Demand begins at 8pm.
Extremely low temperatures cause operational issues with our diesel and electric fleets. Staff will monitor weather throughout this event. If conditions improve and service becomes feasible, we will alert riders through the channels below.

State Office Buildings in Shawnee County are closed for state employees.
Douglas County District Court will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 18, due to the winter storm.
The Kansas Judicial Center in Topeka will be closed Tuesday.
The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Tuesday, Feb, 18, due to the winter storm warning for everybody’s safety.
Lawrence Meals on Wheels will be closed on Tuesday.
The Lawrence Arts Center will be closed Tuesday until 5 p.m. A decision will be made regarding evening classes and activities by 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The Senior Resource Center for Douglas County, including Senior Wheels, will be closed on Tuesday.
Lawrence Eye Care will be closed the remainder of the day today 2/18
City facilities closed on Tuesday, February 18
Due to the winter storm, City facilities, including City Hall and all Parks, Recreation and Culture facilities, will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 18. This is due to the forecasted winter storm resulting in dangerous travel conditions.
In-person services based out of City Hall will be unavailable on Tuesday, which includes:
- Utility Billing (online services for Utility Billing will still be available)
- Municipal Court (those scheduled for court on Tuesday, Feb. 18 will be rescheduled to March 18 at the same scheduled time)
- Planning & Development Services
- City Clerk
Additionally, the City Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18, is cancelled.
With Parks, Recreation and Culture facilities closed tomorrow, they will not be available as warming centers for those in need. As of 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, the City is operating a 24-hour shelter at University Community of Christ Church, 1900 University Dr. Anyone in need of shelter should first go to the Lawrence Community Shelter. If LCS is full, transportation to an overflow shelter, such as University Community of Christ or First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont St., will be provided. The February 19, 2025 Community Police Review Board Meeting is canceled due to the current Winter Storm Warning and forecasted snow accumulation resulting in dangerous travel conditions.
