Weather Related Closings – Wednesday, February 19
Following are the weather related closings that have been reported to us so far:
School Closings:
Lawrence Public Schools (USD 497) will be closed, Wednesday, February 19. All activities are canceled and district buildings and parking lots will be closed.
Perry Lecompton (USD 343) will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, Feb 19 & 20, with no activities either evening.
Baldwin School District (USD 348) – Winter weather, and the potential for extreme cold temperatures, have forced the district to cancel classes tomorrow, Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Decisions regarding activities and athletics will be made by noon tomorrow and communicated by coaches and/or sponsors.
Bishop Seabury Academy – No announcement as yet.
Eudora School District (USD 491) closed.
McLouth Schools (USD 342) will be closed with no activities.
University of Kansas – The University of Kansas has canceled all classes — in person and online — for the Lawrence, Edwards and Leavenworth campuses Wednesday, February 19, due to winter weather.
Haskell Indian Nations University will be closed with classes canceled.
Winter weather cancellations for Lawrence Transit (from their press release):
Based on the forecast for winter weather and dangerously cold temperatures, the following plans have been made for Lawrence Transit services. The safety of our bus riders and employees is our priority.
- Wednesday, Feb. 19 – All service is canceled. No overnight On Demand service.
- Thursday, Feb. 20 – Fixed route and paratransit services are canceled. On Demand begins at 8pm.
- Friday, Feb. 21 – Service planned to resume as usual. On Demand begins at 8pm.
Extremely low temperatures cause operational issues with our diesel and electric fleets. Staff will monitor weather throughout this event. If conditions improve and service becomes feasible, we will alert riders through the channels below.

The Community Police Review Board Meeting is canceled due to dangerous travel conditions.
Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not be delivering meals on Wed. 2/19 due to the extreme cold and snow.
Lawrence Eye Care offices will be closed until Friday, 2/21.
The Senior Resource Center for Douglas County, including Senior Wheels, is closed.
