Weather Related Closings – Thursday, February 20

Following are the weather related closings that have been reported to us so far:

School Closings:

Lawrence Public Schools (USD 497) will be closed Thursday, February 20. All activities are canceled and district buildings and parking lots will be closed.

Perry Lecompton (USD 343) will be closed Thursday, Feb 20, with no activities this evening.

Baldwin School District (USD 348) – Early morning temperatures and the forecast wind chill have forced the district to cancel classes tomorrow, Thursday, February 20, 2025. At this time, Thursday’s BHS Girl’s Basketball at Eudora will continue as planned. Decisions regarding other activities and athletics will be made by noon tomorrow and communicated by coaches and/or sponsors. It is the district’s plan to be in session on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the typical start times.  Consideration was given to a late start. However, forecast temperatures and wind chill remain at concerning levels. Administrators have met regarding a plan to make up lost minutes due to the number of cancellations we’ve experienced. The District will communicate this plan next week, following the February Regular Board meeting.

Eudora School District (USD 491) is closed.

Haskell Indian Nations University – classes canceled for today.

Winter weather cancellations for Lawrence Transit (from their press release):

Based on the forecast for winter weather and dangerously cold temperatures, the following plans have been made for Lawrence Transit services. The safety of our bus riders and employees is our priority.

  • Thursday, Feb. 20 – Fixed route and paratransit services are canceled. On Demand begins at 8pm.
  • Friday, Feb. 21 – Service planned to resume as usual. On Demand begins at 8pm.

Extremely low temperatures cause operational issues with our diesel and electric fleets. Staff will monitor weather throughout this event. If conditions improve and service becomes feasible, we will alert riders through the channels below.

All Lawrence Parks, Recreation & Culture facilities are OPEN on normal schedules, but all programs and activities are CANCELED until 2 p.m. Stay updated at https://rainoutline.com/search/dnis/7853714980.  Trails remain CLOSED as crews focus on clearing parking lots and streets.

  • Lap Swim: 6:30 AM – 12:45 PM & 4 – 7:30 PM
  • Warm Water Workout: 10:45 AM – 12:45 PM
